With the Wyvern
Wedding of Adam and Hannah this month, I'm sure it will be great
night with Full Circle Disco, and the night after I'm raising
spirits at this years 'Race For Life' to be held at Nunnery Wood
Sports Centre, from 9pm. It was a very emotional night but with the
help of Katie Harris, hopefully helped in some small way to energise
the teams going round the track for 24hrs.

'We
had our first dance at 8pm sung live by the incredible Steve
Maitland who was my biggest gamble and my biggest success – he was
amazing, no one wanted him to finish singing, he did an hour more
than he was paid for and the DJ ended up kicking him off the stage
so he'd have some time to play some songs. Probably didn't help that
Steve kept nicking his songs but the guests loved him – he was such
an amazing singer and showman and worth every last penny we paid
him. He sang one of MrKT's favourite songs – Me and Mrs Jones but
changed the words so it was me and Mrs Emery which was a lovely
touch and Lee was singing along to it for me. Everyone joined us on
the floor for our first dance but we only had eyes for each other
and were singing to each other. We danced together loads that night
which was lovely because when we weren't dancing together we were
talking to other people. Steve did a massive second set and did some
real crowd pleasers including Kick in the Head, Shine and New York
New York. My dad and I never had our father/daughter dance, but he
was prepared to do it if I wanted even though he hates dancing which
meant more to me than anything else.

WORCESTER'S first official music
festival looks set to be a triumphant success. With more than 50
bands already signed up and a host of venues offering their
services, live music will echo around the city when the
festival takes place in August. The three-day
event, between Friday, August 22 and Sunday, August 24, is
being organised by self-professed local music lover Chris Bennion." We have about 20
venues at the moment," he said, adding they will range from
coffee shops to bars and pubs. "We have a growing list of
bands. It's now a case of matching them together. Chris Jaeger,
manager of Worcester Live has pledged his support for the
Worcester Music Festival and it is now an official part of
the Worcester Three Choirs Fringe Festival." The overall aim is
to encourage live music in the city," said Mr Bennion. Bands, venues,

Candle
bags ready for cancer relay
SPECIAL candle bags are now on
sale at a Worcester charity shop to prepare for the
city's first Relay for Life.
The bags, which can be
personalised are being sold for
donations for the 24-hour event
being held at the Nunnery Wood
Sports Centre on Saturday September
15 and Sunday, September 16 2007.
The Candle Ceremony is part of
the celebration of life organised by
Cancer Research UK which is designed to remember
those lost to cancer and celebrate
those who have beaten cancer.
Teams of between eight and 15
people will take turns walking or
running around the track for the day
and there will be lots of
entertainment to keep the teams
motivated, including live music,
dancing, food and drink.
At dusk the relay stops, candles
are lit to remember those who have
been lost to cancer or to celebrate
the lives of those who have
survived.
Paul Moult, relay chair at BBT,
one of the organisers said: "The
candle ceremony is the part of the
event people remember and talk about
the most. It is a very moving time.
"At the event the bags will be
filled with a little sand and a
candle. These are then placed around
the track and the candles lit during
the ceremony. The will then burn
throughout the night. On the bank
the word HOPE will be written in
candle bags, as we all hope that a
cure can be found to cancer. During
the night HOPE will be changed to
spell CURE."
Members of the public are welcome
to join the event for all or part of
the day. |

Budding pop stars belt out the big
hits
From the archive, first published
Thursday 31st Aug 2006.
POP star hopefuls took to the stage
at a Worcester nightspot over the bank holiday weekend in the
latest round of a talent competition.
More than 150 people came along to
see eight contestants battle it out on Monday night in this week's
heat of RSVP Idol, based on ITV Talent show Pop Idol.
All of the eight acts performed two
hits - with the theme for the night being tunes from the year they
were born - Also performing on the night were Sherie Nichols who
sang Soft Cell's Tainted Love, Lisa Donnelly singing Phil Collins'
Can't Hurry Love and Kelly Main singing Irene Cara's Flashdance.
The judges' favourite from the previous week Steve Maitland sang
Let's Stay Together while there was a
`sing-off' between Carla Pezzini and Rob Faull. The latter sang
the Housemartin's Caravan Of Love and was knocked out of the
competition. The seven remaining singers will now go through to
the next round in two weeks' time. Amy Boorn, one of the assistant
organisers of the event, said she was delighted with how the
latest heat had gone.
She added: "It was a really good
night and every singer who was singing was really strong - I think
it's going to get very hard to judge from now on. There was also a
lot of support for people from members of the public on the
night."
The competition started in July when
17 finalists from some 50 hopefuls were picked in auditions. Each
week the acts now battle it out at the bar, in The Cross, in a
series of live heats and eliminations. They are in two groups,
which perform on alternate weeks.
On Monday the other group will be
preparing to sing two songs from the year they were born, while
the following week this week's group will have to sing two love
songs.
The grand final is set to take place
at the end of October, with the overall winner of the competition
walking away with a cash prize of £1,000 and a session in a
recording studio.
